With the new sails all set up and ready, we prepare for our departure from Puerto Chiapas. We spend the last days provisioning, stowing gear, and getting our paperwork in order before departing for new shores. But the weather has other plans.

While underway to Puerto Chiapas, after our forestay detached we reduced sail coverage, the next item on the list of immediate troubles was our engine’s cooling system. We had just recently replaced the worn impeller of our raw water pump while anchored in Acapulco, so the we figured the culprit was elsewhere.

It was an indescribably magical feeling to swim in the open ocean. More specifically, 10 miles from shore and 80 meters above the ocean floor. Though scary for some, I found it to be incredibly peaceful and I felt a oneness with the ocean that I’d never truly felt before.

Having guests aboard reminded us again how much the boat needs regular maintenance. Monthly, daily, weekly. If not performed in time, bigger problems may develop. However, having visitors makes us want to go explore new shores and swim, snorkel, and paddle around.
