Since much of our time in Panama had been spent building our new dinghy, we took the last few weeks to catch up on some much needed boat maintenance as we get ready to depart for South America. We headed back to Las Perlas to get back to work and enjoy some empty anchorages.

While underway to Puerto Chiapas, after our forestay detached we reduced sail coverage, the next item on the list of immediate troubles was our engine’s cooling system. We had just recently replaced the worn impeller of our raw water pump while anchored in Acapulco, so the we figured the culprit was elsewhere.

After our unexpected rigging and engine problems on passage from Acapulco, we anticipated the worst was yet to come as we slowly limped in to Chiapas in the wee hours of the morning. But Neptune seemed to grant us a reprieve, delivering us safely to a wonderful little harbor at the very southern extreme of Mexico’s Pacific Coast; Marina de Chiapas!
