Change is in the air aboard Rua Hatu this month! Lots of change! Not just onboard either, the world seems to be changing at an increasingly erratic pace (hang in there Ukraine πΊπ¦). Though our boat has been relatively stationary in La Paz for far longer than we anticipated, that certainly hasn’t kept the crew and our friends and family from roaming about the universe.
Shortly after the Taggart Family’s visit, Janine made her way to Germany and Croatia to catch up with family and friends. In the meantime I worked on electrical systems, new onboard WiFi and some plumbing issues. I then moved the boat a whole 4.5 NM from Marina Fonatur in La Paz (cheap, government-run marina) back to our usual anchorage at the NE end of the Mogote. That is a lot considering we arrived in La Paz back in January…
It was about that time that some unfortunate news reached us… After 94 years, my amazing (and only remaining) Grandmother passed away at her home in California. I count myself unbelievably fortunate to have had such a wonderful, caring and loving grandma so close for so much of my life, and though I couldn’t be with her through her final days I am endlessly grateful to my parents, particularly my mother, who comforted and cared for her until the very end. May we all be so fortunate to go peacefully, in our sleep with family by our side when our time comes… I love you Grandma, and I will carry that love with me wherever the winds take me!
Shortly after Janine’s safe return from Europe, I traveled to Sacramento for a week to visit my parents, my aunts and uncles and several long-time friends who happened to be in town. It was a busy week that brought back many wonderful memories, along with great food, music (thanks Noize Club) and friends.
So now Janine and I are back onboard together, and underway to our next destination! With our plans to make the puddle jump on hold yet again due to some unexpected visa requirements for US passport holders and extra hassle for importing pets, we are currently underway to the mainland of Mexico. There we will pick up two good friends in Puerto Vallarta who will join us for a month on our way down to Acapulco. They will be our first long-term guests onboard and shortly after we say goodbye to them, we’ll also bid farewell to Mexico and continue on to South America for the summer.
