More repairs among heat and humidity

This week we finally placed our new sails order. More on that soon! But now we have to wait. Six to eight weeks. In the meantime we continue slowly checking items off our to-do list. Will we run out of things to do before we leave here? I don’t think so!

It is hot and humid in Puerto Chiapas this time of year

The heat and humidity here in Chiapas is currently oppressive. But we are fortunate, our friends on Skookum are allowing us to hide out from the heat and humidity on their beautiful, air-conditioned catamaran while they are off visiting friends and family in Canada and Northern Ireland. Thank you, friends!

We recently made another run to Puerto Madero for some groceries. This time we landed on the beach of the turning basin and walked into town instead of our last trip where we motored the dinghy up the channel.

Last week our fridge plate lost cooling power and the line feeding the coolant to the plate was dripping. The freezer compartment was never very good at freezing but now the interior of the fridge was at 18 degrees Celsius or more. Not cool! Nic promptly contacted a refrigeration technician that was recommended to us by the marina staff and other sailors that had work done by him. In the meantime we have to thank our friends on Skookum again for allowing us to use their fridge and freezer to store our food until our cold plate gets fixed.

The fridge technician removed all the old refrigerant, pressure-tested the lines but did not discover any leaks. Finally he refilled the system with new refrigerant and today, after 18 hours the fridge is back to 6 degrees. I think the problem might be resolved. Yay!
