I just returned from three weeks in Europe visiting family and friends in both Germany and Croatia. This trip included my usual stops in Munich, Cres, and Buzet with day trips to various other places. Leaving balmy warm Mexico for chilly Europe took some getting used to but I was fortunately didn’t experience the usually persistent Bura wind conditions while in Cres, this kept the temperatures mild. Nice enough even to go for a boat ride.
I visited my cousin’s cookie factory Delicia that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and the vinyard Sirotić in Medveje near Buzet with its prized Teran and Malvazija wines. Once again I was treated to the great hospitality and foods that remind me of my childhood.
Next steps
Nic is traveling to see his family in California and bringing supplies back to the boat.
Meanwhile we were considering our options for where to spend hurricane season this year. Originally we were planning on sailing to the Marquesas and French Polynesia followed by New Zealand. However, gaining entry to French Polynesia isn’t quite as easy for Nic, as a US citizen, as it is for me, a EU citizen. So for now we have decided to sail south to Central America, starting with Costa Rica, and regroup next fall to decide and prepare our next steps. We are so very lucky to have options, time, and resources to be able to make decisions on which paradise to visit first.
